Set against a mountainous landscape, on this piece I utilized a looser, more impressionistic approach focusing on movement, form, composition while depicting a cowboy in a light-colored shirt and hat is shown mid-air as his tan horse bucks vigorously, its hind legs kicked high. The subject is a scene from another one of my favorite “classic” movies, “The man from snowy river”.

I used bold, blocky brushstrokes to define the shapes of the horse and rider, prioritizing the feeling of action over fine detail.

While using earthy tans and browns for the horse and foreground, contrasted against a pale, muted mountain range and a clear light-blue sky.
